Swansea City managed to end their poor form overnight, beating Aston Villa in Birmingham after an important comeback with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Ayew cancelling out Jordan Ayew’s opening goal.

Both teams started the match rather nervously, bearing in mind the importance of finding a path to victory after a horrible run of results. The Villans were desperate to record their first home win since early May and they had the slight advantage in the early stage. Swansea had 18 less passes in the attacking third during the first 45 minutes and were unable to make a shot on target.

Coming out from the break, both sides were looking to make a statement. Aston Villa was attacking even more at the start of the second-half, mostly through Jordan Ayew. The younger of the Ayew brothers would find the breakthrough, only 30 seconds after Andre was unlucky to score for the Swans on the other side of the pitch. A header after Gabriel Agbonlahor’s cross was too far from Lukasz Fabianski to save and Tim Sherwood was clearly relieved in the dugout.

Yet, the Swans were back on track only five minutes later as Gylfi Sigurdsson scored from a 25-metre long free kick, leaving Brad Guzan collecting the ball out of the net. The rhythm rose dramatically in the following 20 minutes, which Swansea utilised with efficiency. Kyle Naughton’s remarkable assist from the right-flank was perfectly struck towards Andre Ayew, who scored the winning goal just minutes before the final whistle.
