Stoke City have moved a stepped close to securing Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi on loan for the upcoming season according to reports from Sky Sports.

It is being reported the defender has arrived in Stoke in the past 24 hours to discuss personal terms with the club, having been deemed surplus to requirements by Porto.

Martins Indi will reportedly have a medical with the Potters on deadline day before finalising the deal for the Dutch international. Mark Hughes’ side will reportedly have the option to sign the 24-year-old on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

Stoke appear to have beaten Merseyside clubs Everton and Liverpool to the player, and when the deal is struck it could be a flow on effect for other deals are completed.

Meanwhile, defender Phillip Wollscheid is reportedly on the verge of a move to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg, and will be given the go ahead to complete the move when Stoke’s deal with Martins Indi is complete.

Despite losing a player Porto could turn out to be winners following the defender’s move to England.

The Guardian is reporting that the Portuguese giants may turn their attentions to former player Eliaquim Mangala who signed for Manchester City just two years ago.
