Tottenham Hotspur have retained the services of star midfielder Dele Alli, with the 20-year-old signing a six-year deal to keep him at the club until 2022.

Alli was a revelation under Mauricio Pochettino last season as Spurs challenged Leicester City for the Premier League title, before managing a third placed finish.

The English international played a major part in his side’s upward trajectory, contributing 10 goals and 12 assists in 40 appearances from an advanced midfield position.

He was picked in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad, making three appearances as England were eliminated in the round of 16.

After falling to a 2-1 loss to AS Monaco in the Champions League opener at Wembley, Alli felt a 1-0 win against Sunderland was the perfect response.

“You always look to try to bounce back after defeat and it was tough to take,” Alli told Sky Sports after the match.

“It was a great performance by the boys. We should have seen the game off earlier, I felt we dominated from the start.

“We were dominating the game and we felt comfortable and felt like we needed to keep being patient and moving the ball quicker and knew the chance would come.”
