Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills believes Everton could be the surprise contenders for the Premier League title in 2016-17.
The Toffees are sitting second on the table after three straight top-flight wins under new manager Ronald Koeman.
Speaking on BBC Radio, Mills claimed that with their current team and the Dutchman on the sidelines, Everton are set to replicate Tottenham’s charge toward the top from last season, where Mauricio Pochettino’s side finished third.
“Are they as good as Tottenham last season?…probably, you have to say,” Mills said.
“They have got a similar sort of squad. It’s a small squad. They have got to keep those players fit. They are very reliant on two or three players.
“If they get injured or dip in form, they might struggle, but there is no reason why they can’t push as close as Tottenham did, I think, last season.”
The Merseysiders will look to continue their Premier League form against Bournemouth this weekend, after suffering a surprise 2-0 defeat to Norwich in the EFL Cup this morning.
