Australian attacker Chris Ikonomidis has made a late deadline day move out on loan to Danish club AGF Aarhus from Serie A club Lazio.

Amid the chaos and high profile deals occurring worldwide, the 21-year-old has been shipped out from the Roman club in order to continue his development with a greater amount of game time.

A Sutherland junior, trials in Europe at the age of 15 saw Ikonomidis eventually sign with Serie A club Atlanta. He then moved to Lazio, making his Socceroos debut before his senior team debut at the club. He has since experienced some first team action, notably against St Etienne in the Europa League in December 2015.

However, consistent game time has been hard to come by for the rising star, and it is felt a loan move is key for both his development and to remain in Ange Postecoglou’s Socceroos calculations.

Ikonomidis is currently in Perth with the Socceroos ahead of Thursday night’s World Cup qualifier against Iraq, before next Tuesday’s clash with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
