Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini says his team needs to provide better support for the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala after the Italians were held to a goalless draw in their Champions League opener against Sevilla on Wednesday.

The hosts dominated the match, controlling possession and dominating the shot count 16-3 as the visitors held on for a valuable point.

“We created a number of chances in the first half,” Chiellini said.

“We managed to regain possession high up the field and also find space in the final third. It’s just a pity that we were unable to score before the break.

“A positive from tonight’s performance is that we were very compact and well-organised, we didn’t concede a single shot on target and these are precisely the kind of things that a great side needs to show when looking to go far in Europe.

“Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that we need to help our forwards out better, giving them greater opportunities to score, even if our efforts on goal were not exactly lacking and we were just whiskers away from finding the net.”
