Socceroos and Preston North End defender Bailey Wright says he is not surprised with international teammate and Championship colleague Aaron Mooy’s early form in England’s second-tier.

Albeit on a small sample size of three league games, Mooy has been lauded by Huddersfield and Championship fans alike, dubbed ‘too good for the league’ by some.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Football Show, Wright said he was impressed with Mooy’s start and adaption to the league.

“Azza’s (Aaron Mooy) a great player. No matter where he was going to go play his football, you know he is going to do well. He has started well,” he said.

“I’m sure he will continue to do well. Good players like him set high standards.”

“Huddersfield has been a good fit for him on-loan.”

“He’ll be adapting to life over here and he seems to be adapting very quickly and he’ll tell you, it’s a tough division. There are some good teams to play against and it is a great opportunity to be pushing for the Premier League.”

Wright is joined in England’s second-tier by Mooy (Huddersfield), Mass Luongo (QPR) and now Mile Jedinak (Aston Villa), all welcome additions to the division according to the Preston North End defender.

“It’s nice to see more and more boys over here, and a few familiar faces. It’ll be nice when we play against each other,” he said.

“100 per cent it is a great division. You look at some of the players that have come through and now in the Premier League.”

“You have got some massive clubs with Premier League squads. Every game you go into you have players fighting for their lives…because they all want to get to the Premier League.”

“You are playing two games a week. Saturday and Tuesday throughout most of the season. It is tough mentally and physically.”

The 24-year-old was also announced midweek as part of Ange Postecoglou’s Socceroos squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in September, with Wright pointing to the settled nature of the squad as a major positive.

“The faces that have been in this squad and have been long around in camps to know what to expect,” he said.

“The more familiar people get the better understanding we have.”

“You cannot be complacent because the squad can change at any time.”

“Every time you get called up it’s an honour and we have two important games coming up. They’re all going to be important now…Everyone’s fighting for that shirt.”
