Aaron Ramsey is set to miss Arsenal’s clash with Southampton this Saturday, after failing to recover in time from a hamstring injury sustained in the opening round 4-3 loss to Liverpool at Emirates Stadium.

The Welshman was expected to return in time for this match, but is reportedly being given another week to ensure his recovery is complete.

According to the Telegraph, Arsene Wenger is wary of rushing Ramsey back, with key clashes against Paris Saint Germain and Chelsea fast approaching in the Champions League and Premier League respectively.

However, with Santi Cazorla and Granit Xhaka in fine form for the Gunners at the present time, the luxury of not having to rush Ramsey back in is a luxury Wenger would appreciate, after a horrid run with injuries in the 2015-16 campaign.

Arsenal sit fourth on the Premier League standings, with one win and one draw from the opening three matches. The opening day loss to Liverpool was followed by a 0-0 draw with Leicester City, before dismantling Watford City 3-1 away from home.
