Shkrodan Mustafi has praised Arsenal’s fighting spirit in the aftermath of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat over Southampton at Emirates Stadium, ahead of tonight’s clash with Paris Saint Germain.

A Petr Cech own-goal put the Saints ahead, before Laurent Koscielny levelled matters with a magnificent overhead kick. The equaliser set the stage for Santi Cazorla’s stoppage time winner, coming from the penalty spot to break Southampton hearts.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website after the game, the 24-year-old defender lauded the strong mentality of his team.

“If you don’t concentrate for 90 minutes, you lose points. We concentrated until the end, and that’s what gave us the winner.

“I’m happy for the three points first of all, but I’m happy for how the supporters received me here and how the team made me feel part of it.”

Another tough encounter awaits Mustafi shortly after arriving from Valencia, as Arsenal take on PSG in matchday one of the new Champions League campaign tonight.

“It’s an important competition, it’s not going to be an easy game in Paris,” he said.

“The most important thing in the Champions League is to concentrate on yourself because all the teams in it are big teams with big players so the most important thing is to try and play our game and try to get the three points.”
