Archie Thompson certainly has a lot to reflect upon when looking back at his time with Mebourne Victory.

The iconic striker will play his last home game for the club this Tuesday night, as Kevin Muscat’s men enter the Asian Champions League knockout stages for the first time against Korean side Jeonbuk.

“I’d like to thank my teammates, the board, the chairman all the coaches who believed in me. I’ve enjoyed every second of it,” said Thompson when speaking at Saturday night’s Victory medal ceremony.

“This is fairy-tale stuff…the amount of people who stop me on the street now and say they never followed football, but when they watched me play it changed and they’re supporters now. That to me, that’s why I play the game.”

With the end of an unforgettable chapter in Australian football in sight, the 37-year-old wants to make the most of his last minutes as a Victory player.

“You’re in a bubble and I’m going to miss that, because once you’re out of it, it’s hard to get back in.

“I’m going to enjoy these two games, we’ve created history and to be a part of it is fantastic. I think football is always about moments and I’m going to keep enjoying it.”
