Chelsea manager Antonio Conte hailed Cesc Fabregas after his side’s 4-2 EFL Cup win over Leicester City at the Liberty Stadium.

Leicester let a 2-0 lead slip, as Shinji Okazaki’s first-half double put the hosts into a commanding position. Fabregas netted an extra-time brace to decide the match, after goals to Blues defenders Gary Cahill and Cezar Azpilicueta sent the match to extra time.

Conte singled out the Spanish midfielder for praise after struggling to earn sufficient game time in recent weeks.

Speaking to press after the match, the Italian said: “I am pleased for Cesc because he played a good game.”

“I am pleased for him because he showed me in this period a great attitude in training and when I’ve called on him to come on during games.”

Asked if Fabregas was likely to feature this weekend, the Italian said: “All the players in my squad have the possibility to play against Arsenal.

“There are three days before the game and they have the opportunity to show me during the training sessions – to convince me to put them in.”

Chelsea make the short trip to North London on Saturday to face Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.
