Renowned radio broadcaster Alan Jones has drawn the ire of Australian football fans by comparing A-League fan behaviour to the recent terrorism in Paris.

Interviewing Daily Telepgraph journalist Rebecca Wilson on his radio show, Jones discussed a leaked document of football fans who have been banned from attending A-League matches. The document was the basis of an article by Wilson that featured on the front page of the Daily Telegraph.

Jones took the view that that the document was a “soccer shame file”, labelling those who attended A-League games as “soccer louts”.

Wilson, a known critic of football and the A-League, labelled A-League fan behaviour as a “cultural problem”.

“The problem is spreading to the suburbs,” she told Jones.

The alarmism was nothing new from the Daily Telegraph journalist, who once made the ill-informed comparison between A-League crowd behaviour and the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.

Jones concluded his interview on the program with the question: “Is this like terrorism in Paris?”

To which Wilson replied, “That is exactly right. This culture must be fixed from within.”
