An utterly manic second semi-final saw a comeback of Istanbul-like proportions from the Western Sydney Wanderers, who booked themselves a grand final date with Adelaide United next Sunday.

It was an incredible 13 minutes in the first-half which saw Brisbane run away to a three-goal lead largely thanks to Andreu, who endured a torrid time before regaining some credibility after the break.

Before the break it was 3-2 and the match was set-up for a bumper second-half which saw the scoreline at a 4-4 stalemate y the end of the 90, requiring an extra 30 minutes of football beckoned as a fitting farwelfor Pirtek Stadium

After being a super-sub in the Sydney Derby earlier this season, Dario Vidosic popped up with an even more important strike in the first-half of extra-time to send the Red & Black Bloc into an insane delirium.

A-League – What We Learned – Western Sydney Wanderers 5 Brisbane Roar 4

Top three

Romeo Castelen – The Wanderers’ flying Dutchman,much-maligned throughout this campaign for his missed chances in front of goal, pulled his side back into this contest with a sublime hat-trick. He was a constant menace when out wide against the Roar’s Corey Brown, too, delivering a fine performance when Pirtek Stadium needed him most. Adelaide will do well to target him at the Adelaide Oval.

Jamie Maclaren – The born-again young-Australian finished off a fine first season in Brisbane orange with another prolific performance. He was at the centre of the Roar taking a huge lead and then pulled his side level once more late on. He is likely to feel as though he did his fair share of work to get teammates into the season’s final weekend.

Dario Vidosic – The former Adelaide United player’s match-winning cameo clinches a spot in the semi- final’s best three performers. He was a threat before his goal which was an opportunistic dart across the front of the six-yard box to tap home. The fringe-Socceroo has returned from an ill-fated spell in Switzerland and consistently made the most of the chances given to him by Tony Popovic. Could replace Mark Bridge in the starting side next week.
