A-League – Three worst performers of the Melbourne derby

Outside90’s Luke Sale casts an eye over the three worst individual performances from tonight’s Melbourne derby.

Scott Galloway

A nerve-ridden Victory back four endured a tough night against the league’s best attacking side by a stretch. Yet the last thing Kevin Muscat would have been after was a helping hand to van’t Schip’s productive front four. Galloway’s positioning for their rival’s opener was well beyond the rest of the Victory line, allowing Fornaroli that extra bit of space he needed to get a shot off. The makeshift left back struggled to retain possession from that moment on and failed to make an impact offensively.

Nicholas Ansell

Much like Galloway in the sense he was found wanting in a crucial moment. His attempted clearing header from Mooy’s wicked set piece severely lacked conviction and allowed Fornaroli to pounce.

Anthony Caceres

After his much spoken about move from Gosford to Melbourne via the oil-rich Manchester, Caceres’ opening performances in pale blue needed to be sound and assured to leave City fans pleased with their owners work. His red card left his new team in a lurch in one of their biggest ever matches and he now has some making up to do to his new colleagues and supporting faithful.
