Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United have played out a mostly forgettable 0-0 draw tonight at Hunter Stadium.

The few real chances in the match occurred in the first half as Marcelo Carrusca and Mateo Poljak both hit the woodwork for their respective teams.

Carrusca provided one of the few highlights in the second half when he hit the woodwork once again from a free kick. The effort would have been unfortunate for the home side as Bruce Djite went down very softly for the free kick in the first place.

The result leaves the Jets three points clear of the Reds on the ladder but both will have to improve markedly if they wish to feature at the business end of the season.

Newcastle Jets

Mark Birighitti – 7: Again made some smart saves to keep his side in the contest. Continually bails out his side time and again.

Jason Hoffman – 6: Went into the book early and will miss next week as a result. Did provide good energy from the flanks throughout the contest.

Nigel Boogaard – 7: A steadying influence again at the back for the Jets. Showed why the team really misses him when he is unavailable.

Lachlan Jackson – 7: Much better this week. Is improving by the week and has been a good pick up for the Jets.

Nick Cowburn – 7: Played well yet again. Every time the young man is called upon he never lets his manager or his team mates down.

Ben Kantarovski – 6: Another who misses next week due to picking up a card. Is rugged and dependable in the centre of the park and should be played only in that position by Miller.

Mateo Poljak – 7: Almost scored a rare headed goal and was safe and secure in his distribution throughout. One of the home side’s best.

Ryan Kitto – 7: Encouraging performance from the South Australian youngster. If he can add a final ball he will be pressing his claims to start every week.

David Carney – 8: Again at the centre of most good things for the Jets. Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet on a number of occasions. Was the only real attacking threat for the Jets.

Milos Trifunovic – 6: Did well to create a few chances for his fellow attackers but needs to start adding goals to his game again soon.

Enver Alivodic – 7: A real menace down the left for the Jets. Put in another polished display. Has been one of the Jets better players this season.

Substitutes

Cameron Watson – 6: Came on late and had little chance to gain the advantage for his side.

Braedyn Crowley – 6: Needs to work on his first touch when in possession. Wasn’t the worst cameo but he needs to do more.
