The A-League’s opening round blockbuster between bitter rivals Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory underwhelmed with a 0-0 stalemate played out.
Neither side were able to get on top in the first half as plenty of niggling fouls had a diminish effect on the flow of the game.
Melbourne had the better of possesion and chances in the second half up until the controversial sending off of Leigh Broxham, but Adelaide were unable to take advantage in a rather dull encounter and almost could have punished their opponents late in the match.
Overall a draw was a great result for the home team, who came under sustained Victory pressure in the second half, with the visitors wasting several opportunities to take the lead.
