The A-league is capable of throwing up surprises, but there are some things that simply will not happen this season.

The champions will not be knocked off their perch

It is difficult to fathom Melbourne Victory falling back into the pack this summer. After claiming the premiership/championship double in 2014-15, the third in their short but illustrious history, Victory have bolstered their squad with a series of impressive signings, after recapturing the key signatures of Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Matthieu Delpierre earlier in the year.

Skipper Mark Milligan was lost to Baniyas SC in the UAE, but was swiftly replaced in the form of Oliver Bozanic, who comes to Melbourne after a 51-game stint with Luzern. Former Glory goalkeeper Danny Vukovic replaces Nathan Coe and Olyroo Giancarlo Gallifuoco presents as another defensive option after signing late in September.

The Asian Champions League may wear on the boys in blue when the group stage kicks off in February, but if they can successfully negotiate that period, it seems likely they will lift the toilet seat once again.
