Manchester City continued their 100% start to the Premier league with a dominant victory over Everton at Goodison Park.

Despite much resilience from the home side, City were clinical and came away with all three points in the bag, thanks to goals from Aleksandar Kolarov and Samir Nasri. The result meant that City have taken all nine points from their three games, leaving them at the top of the league. Roberto Martinez’s men can hold their heads high despite their defeat.

The David Silva show

It might be a bit monotonous to continue showering praise on David Silva, but judging by the Spaniard’s performances this season, it is hard not to. The 29-year-old has been in sublime form right from the first minute of the season and he does not look like slowing down any time soon. Silva managed to dictate play from the midfield and was involved in nearly of all City’s attacks. Gareth Barry and James McCarthy were responsible for keeping him at bay but were instead given a torrid time by the silky Spaniard. He got in behind the midfield duo on more than a few occasions and looked threatening throughout the the match. He could well have scored a goal himself, only to be denied by the upright.

Ross Barkley looks sharp

The young Englishman has impressed many with his performances already this season and was the only one to cause the City defence any concern. He started off playing just behind Lukaku, but was really all over the pitch. From performing his defensive duties to threating Joe Hart’s goal, Barkley was by far Everton’s standout outfield player. In a game that was Everton’s toughest test yet, Barkley showed he has what it takes to be one of England’s best midfielders. Coming up against the likes of Yaya Toure and Fernandinho, he showed no hesitation in taking them on and went past them on quite a few occasions as well.

Last-minute transfers

With only a week to go before the transfer window shuts, teams are rushing to complete their deals. While City are awaiting the imminent arrival of Kevin De Bruyne, Everton are likely to lose out on one of their star defenders. John Stones has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, but the Toffees are not keen on letting one of their best players leave, despite the money offered. Chelsea have clearly struggled in defence this season and will be desperate to land Stones before the window shuts. Everton have already signed what looks to be Stones’s replacement in the form of Argentine defender Ramiro Funes Mori from River Plate.
