Western Sydney won their seventh game in a row and retained top spot on the A-League table with a 2-0 win over the Melbourne Victory at Pirtek Stadium.

A tight, entertaining contest saw first host second in a match with plenty of chances, plenty of fire and plenty of passion.

After a scoreless first-half – which saw Danny Vukovic stop Mark Bridge one-on-one and Besart Berisha’s diving header denied only by the crossbar – the second stanza followed in much the same tempo.

In the 53rd minute, the Wanderers were able to break the deadlock through Bridge, recording his fourth goal in as many games.

Scott Neville’s through ball unleashed Romeo Castelen down the right-flank and cut into the box. His pass across the face of goal was met by Bridge, who smashed it into the back of the net.

The home side doubled their advantage through Castelen, after the Dutchman brilliantly lost his marker in Daniel Georgievski and burst into the box, beating Vukovic at the near-post.

The Wanderers now sit four points clear at the top of the table, while Victory succumb to their second loss in a row.
