Real Madrid have drawn 0-0 against French giants Paris Saint Germain in the third group match of the UEFA Champions League at the Parc de Princes this morning.

As expected, Real dominated play from the first whistle while their French counterparts preferred to sit back and let the opposition dictate play.

The home side can thank the heroics of its goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, whom managed to stop Jese’s shot and a barrage of attempts spearheaded by none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Indeed it was Ronaldo who, late in the second term, was the closest to scoring yet his shot went narrowly wide of the post.

As a result, both teams share the spoils and Los Blancos now sit atop of the Group A standings.

A conservative PSG

Given their standing in their own domestic league as well as in Europe, fans spoke of this match as two heavyweights colliding.

Yet surprisingly it was the hosts who held back and played some very restricted and conservative football.

Rather it was their strategy to seemingly sit back and allow their Spanish opponents to somewhat dictate play, which they did well in the opening stages.

If this style of play was adopted by any other team, one would think its chances of actually keeping the scores deadlocked would have been small. Yet seeing as it was PSG, their defence and more so their midfield were more than capable of coping under the pressure.

However doubts did appear as on the occasion of several real counter-attacks it was Trapp whom was keeping his side in it despite PSG having the majority of possession on a few occasions.

Les Parisiens will most likely qualify for the round of 16. Whether that be in first or second positions not likely to bother them.
