Queens Park Rangers lost for the second week in a row after they were beaten one nil by Derby County at the iPro stadium on Tuesday night.

Rangers attacking opportunities were few and far between and the team looked prepared to play out a goal-less draw from the get go. However, a 12-yard half volley from Andreas Weimann put the hosts up early in the second half, while Jacob Butterfield was unlucky not to double the tally minutes later. The Rams went close several more times throughout the game while James Perch’s last minute sending off did the home side no favours. In the end Weimann’s goal was enough to secure all three points.

Derby were out for revenge

Derby clearly had a score to settle after their famous loss to Rangers in the 2013-14 Championship season playoffs. And with no Bobby Zamora magic to bail them out, Rangers were outplayed.

QPR were getting dominated early on, with Ale Faurlin in particular losing possession several times. As the first half dragged on it evened out and, at one stage, looked like it was heading towards a dull draw. Sights on goal were scarce and of no threat to either shot stopper. Derby came out firing in the second half however and Rangers seemed at a loss, surrendering the ball, and the pitch, to the Rams. Richard Keough, whose last encounter with QPR was somewhat of a nightmare, played with supreme confidence, restricting Rangers to shots from outside the box and also teeing up Weimann for their goal.

The home side’s dominance in the game stemmed from their physicality. Players like Chris Martin and Scott Carson fiercely contended every ball and their determination was evident, particularly coming into the second half. Their win might also be down to a QPR’s lack of creativity, that eventuated in only one shot on target.
