Western Sydney Wanderers have moved swiftly to secure released Melbourne City duo Jacob Melling and Jack Clisby, announcing the players’ arrival only minutes after their departures were confirmed on Friday evening.

Clisby and Melling have both signed two-year deals, tieing them to the Parramatta club until 2018.

Both players penned new deals with City early last season but were both granted early exits to pursue opportunity with Tony Popovic’s team.

Clisby, 24, joins the Wanderers with 60 A-League appearances under his belt, with 29 of those earned at Perth Glory and 31 at City.

The defender says he was excited when presented with the chance to play under former Socceroo Popovic.

“Players at the Wanderers really work for each other, the club always has a solid game plan and from an outsider’s perspective you can see a really good team chemistry which I can’t wait to be a part of,” Clisby said.

“I feel I can learn a lot under Tony Popovic. The Wanderers are a very competitive club and I would like to take my game to the next level and contribute to that.

“It’s going to be a new experience for me, a new challenge and I’m looking forward to it.”

An Adelaide local, 21-year-old Melling is also at his third A-League club having plied his trade for the Reds and City.

He says the Wanderers’ ambitions lured him to the club.

“For me it was time to move to a club that always aspires to be the best,” said Melling.

“Playing against the Wanderers is very intimidating – especially in Western Sydney – and to play in that atmosphere, with that fan group behind me will be an incredible experience.
