Zenit have pulled off a remarkable four-goal comeback in the Europa League.

The Russian Cup champions found themselves 3-0 down against Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv, and looked to have no answer to in the oppressive heat at the Netanya Stadium.

Haris Medunjanin opened the scoring from long range for the home side on 26 minutes, and it remained 1-0 until the half.

Icelandic international Vidar Orn Kjartansson doubled Maccabi’s league on 50 minutes with his first goal for the club, heading in a cross from Tal Ben Haim.

The Bosnian Medunjanin then looked to put the result beyond doubt converting a free kick with 20 minutes remaining.

Zenit had other ideas and snatched a goal back a few minutes later through Aleksandr Kokorin.

Maccabi full-back Eli Dasa was then sent off for a second yellow on 81 minutes, after fouling in the box.

Bizarrely, the Russian side was awarded an indirect free-kick 6-yards from goal which was astutely converted by Mauricio.

Things then went from bad to worse for the 21-time Israeli champions with Giuliano scoring shortly after, before a diving header in stoppage time from Luca Djordjevic secured a historic comeback for Mircea Lucescu’s side.
