Melbourne City coach John van’t Schip is welcoming tomorrow night’s challenge, when his team faces table-topping Adelaide United.

Three points are a must in every game from here on in as City sit fourth, four points behind United.

The last time City played the Reds was at Coopers Stadium in round five, with the visitors coming away with a 4-2 win. Van’t Schip is confident his side can hurt United again.

“I think we’re heading into this game in a way that we can do some damage, so that’s how we’re going to approach it,” van’t Schip said.

“We certainly think we’re a chance and can give them a hard time, but we have to know their strengths.”

The Dutchman says it is a no-brainer that every team needs to go into games with the drive to take all three points. He feels it was vital to have that winning mentality because of the closeness of the table.

“I think looking at the teams in the top six, the approach is always going to be like that,” he said.

“We need everybody to perform at a very high level, otherwise it’s going to be difficult.

“These games we have to step up as a team and step up with our individuals against a team that’s playing the best football.”

Should City win, they could rise to second temporarily, equaling Western Sydney Wanderers and Brisbane Roar.

City play the Roar next week and still have to face United again in the last round, which should open up a tasty finish to the season.
