Arsenal have suffered a setback in their pursuit of German international Shkodran Mustafi after Valencia manager Pako Ayestaran ruled out a move away for the central defender.

The Daily Mail have reported that the Spanish club refusing to sell the 24-year-old for anything less than his £42 million release clause.

“Mustafi is not for sale and he will stay at VCF. The market is open and there are still possibilities,” Ayestaran said.

Mustafi was subbed into the game at the beginning of the second half but couldn’t help his side grind out a result as they went down 4-2 to Las Palmas on La Liga’s opening weekend.

With the news Valencia are not willing budge on their asking price, rumours are rift that Arsene Wenger may turn his attention to West Brom defender Jonny Evans.

The Gunners may be priced of that deal also with the Baggies demanding a fee in the region of £25 million for the former Manchester United player according to a report from the Daily Telegraph.

Ayestaran remains hopeful that Mustafi and striker Paco Alcacer both remain at the club beyond this summer, despite Alcacer being linked with a move to Barcelona.

“With (Paco) Alcacer I can be as firm with Mustafi, [club president] Lay Hoon already said it,” Ayestaran said.

“The president has said in public that Alcacer and Mustafi are not for sale and I have to believe her.”
