Adelaide United boss Guillermo Amor remains optimistic his side is heading in the right direction, after recording a scoreless draw against Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

The Reds were much improved from a defensive viewpoint and ended a horrendous run of four consecutive defeats, but were unable to convert its chances and dominance into goals.

“For us I thought it was a good game, it wasn’t an easy game for us given our situation it’s a difficult situation we’re in,” Amor said via a translator in the post-match press conference.

“We had a lot of control, we had a lot of chances.

“Adelaide always plays to win and maybe there’s always that disappointment when we draw and maybe Newcastle were the happier of the two teams to come away with the draw.”

Amor further stressed he is focusing on “all areas” of the team, not just the defence following the recent concession of goals, and the fact the Jets failed to muster a single shot at Eugene Galekovic.

“We are working on all areas all week: in defence, attack, positioning and finishing not just the defence,” he said.

The former Barcelona legend was also quizzed about the need to acquire a striker in the January transfer window given the lack of goals scored this season.

“We’ve got Bruce [Djite] who’s obviously our number nine, as is Eli Babalj, but he’s injured. Pablo [Sanchez] can play there Sergio [Cirio] can play there as well, we have plenty of options in that position,” Amor continued.

Adelaide, who remain winless after seven matches this season, travel to Melbourne to face bitter rivals Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
