Mauricio Pochettino has paid compliment to A-League side Sydney FC, praising the club’s similar playing style to the one he has instilled at English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Spurs cruised to a 1-0 victory over Sydney FC last night in a highly anticipated friendly that saw over 71,000 fans pack out ANZ stadium.

“We saw some Sydney games. I think it is a very good team that always tries to play on the grass, [with a] very good culture. It’s a very good team with good players,” Pochettino said.

“The starting XI had some very good players with good potential. I spoke with their manager and I congratulated him because the team always tries to play in a very good way, the same philosophy as us.”

Harry Kane, one of the English Premier League’s hottest young strikers, netted the only goal of the match, driving a shot low and hard into the bottom left corner in the 43rd minute.

The 21-year-old scored 21 goals in 34 appearances for Spurs in the English Premier League this season, along with three more in Tottenham’s post-season tour against Malaysia’s All-Stars XI and Sydney FC. Pochettino firmly believes that man of the moment Kane can continue his goal scoring form for England in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship this June.

“For us, Harry Kane was one of the best with [Eden] Hazard in the Premier League,” he said.

“[It has been a] fantastic season for him. For the Euro’s it is important to keep momentum. Scoring a lot of goals is important for the U-21’s to get the trophy.”

Although some fans may have feared that Kane would make only a small cameo in the exhibition match against the Sky Blues, the England striker played a solid eighty minutes much to the delight of Australian fans.

“[We are] very happy that he was here with us. We spoke some weeks ago about the importance of him coming here with us and keeping his level. He [came here] after fifty minutes against Malaysia and here he played nearly 90 minutes. It is very important he keeps fit and in good form,” Pochettino said.

The Spurs manager paid high compliment to the hospitality the club recived in Sydney, deeming the North London side’s post-season tour an overwhelming success.

“We’re very happy to be here, in front of 70,000 people to say thank you to all the fans in Australia. It was a very warm welcome. I hope we repeat this trip because it was fantastic to be here.”

While Tottenham now wrap up their post-season tour, Sydney FC still have one more friendly against English premier League champions Chelsea FC to look forward to this coming Tuesday.
