Atletico Madrid star Fernando Torres said it would be welcome return if Diego Costa was to return back to Atletico Madrid.

Costa has been the subject of persistent transfer rumours in recent weeks surrounding a return to the Vicente Calderon, reports which Chelsea has shut down.

Torres, who left the Blues early in the 2014-15 season after Costa joined the club, said he’d welcome his former Chelsea and Spanish teammate.

“We welcome everybody at this club,” Torres said.

“The ones who come, they have to be ready to fight for their place in their time.

“Every player who comes into the squad who wants to help, we welcome them.”

The 32-year-old also played down suggestions of a move to the A-League.

“You never know what is going to happen tomorrow so imagine in a few years,” Torres said.

“But my target is to play many more years here at Atletico, finish my career at the highest level.”

Torres said he was hoping to play more minutes in their final game in Victoria.

However, the star striker admitted it would be up to Diego Simeone after playing the full 90 minutes against Tottenham last night.

“It depends on the manager, we all want to play the most amount of minutes,” Torres said.

“We have to approach every game like we did last night… it is only the second match of pre-season but we take tomorrow very seriously.”
