Western Sydney coach Tony Popovic claims Melbourne City’s acquisition of Tim Cahill has made them stronger ahead of the FFA Cup quarter-final clash tomorrow night.

Cahill is preparing to make his second official appearance for City after coming off the bench in their previous FFA Cup game against the Brisbane Strikers.

Former Crystal Palace defender Popovic believes the striker possesses the quality to swing the match in his team’s favour at any time.

“With Timmy in the side they will always be stronger, whether he starts or comes off the bench,” Popovic told reporters.

“He is a quality player and he has proven that over the years. You can still see he is very determined to do well.

“We’ll show him the respect he deserves but we are going to this game first and foremost to win, we want to get to the semi-final.”

Despite struggling in recent preseasons, Popovic believes his team’s performances in the A-League speak for themselves.

“We’ve had plenty of games which we have lost in pre-season and we have been very successful in the A-League. I wouldn’t look too much into what will happen in the A-League,” he said.

The Wanderers meet Melbourne City in the quarter-final at 7:30pm tomorrow night.
