A-League fans will be treated to a top of the table clash on Friday night.

Super sub Santa

Brendon Santalab has a reputation for being a lethal substitute for Western Sydney, bagging three goals in his last nine appearances off the bench, including the winner in last weekend’s clash on the Central Coast. Given the 33-year-old’s desire to impress and keen eye for a winner, as well as Western Sydney’s lull in goals over the past month, the forward is mounting a case to Tony Popovic for more game time – and against the league’s top scorers, now is as good a time as ever.

City’s poor Pirtek record

Melbourne City may be running rampant against most opposition this season, but when facing Western Sydney in Parramatta, the side’s record is less than impressive. From their encounters at Pirtek Stadium, John van’t Schip’s men have not picked up a win in all five, losing three and drawing two. However, with the side’s away form seeing it bag 11 points from its last six trips away from AAMI Park, the Wanderers’ near pristine home form against City – and top spot – could be under serious threat.

Will Western Sydney learn from their mistakes?

The last meeting between Western Sydney and Melbourne City saw the Victorians keep all three points at AAMI Park in a tight 3-2 win. Since then, City have strengthened their all-round performance having a further fortnight to grow into their shuffled formation – managing to remain unbeaten in 2016. With the away side’s outstanding attack increasingly supported by its defence, Tony Popovic’s men will need to prove they have learnt from their mistakes in round 14 or risk suffering their third loss in a month, and hand top spot to an increasingly confident City outfit.
