Three key talking points – Perth Glory vs Melbourne Victory

Ahead of tonight’s clash between Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory at nib Stadium, we take a look at the major talking points heading into the match.

Kevin Muscat’s Perth woes

Perth is not a happy hunting ground for the Victory, who will be in search of their first win over the Glory in five meetings. Despite vastly different trophy cabinets in the A-League era, the Glory have not only held their own against Victory during  Kevin Muscat’s reign, but in fact hold an equal share of results with the Victory. Buoyed by their record against Melbourne and their 6-1 demolition of the Jets last week, Perth have every chance of continuing their impressive run.

Can the Glory pull off another attacking show?

Last weekend punters were backing the Newcastle Jets to pick up a rare win over Perth, as they headed to Hunter Stadium. Instead the Glory stole headlines with their incredible six goal haul. Back at nib Stadium this Saturday the pressure will be on Kenny Lowe to see his men back up their impressive display, against resolute opposition. Chris Harold and Diego Castro are in fine form after both getting braces last week and they’ll be looking to cause the Victory defence plenty of headaches.

Melbourne back to full strength

After claiming just weeks ago his side were down to a mere ‘10 match-fit players’, Muscat will travel across to WA with all bar skipper Carl Valeri fit to play. And while the loss of the former Socceroo to a mysterious illness is undoubtedly frustrating, the longer his absence continues the better the likes of Oliver Bozanic and Leigh Broxham get at filling the gap. Given the sheer talent the Victorian side boast, and their confidence off the back of another Big Blue win, a fit and ready Melbourne look likely to give Perth a tough 90 minutes.
