Newcastle United remain winless and in the relegation zone after a 2-1 defeat at home to Watford on Saturday night.
A first-half double from Odion Ighalo put the Hornets in prime position, with a strike from Magpies fullback Daryl Janmaat proving to be a mere consolation after the break.
Watford’s bright start was rewarded 10 minutes in when Etienne Capoue found Ighalo unmarked in the penalty area and the Nigerian calmly rolled the ball past the goalkeeper. Their lead was doubled just before the half-hour mark, Troy Deeney playing a lovely through ball to the striker who rounded Tim Krul and made it 2-0. Janmaat pulled one back for the Magpies in the 62nd, but despite an onslaught of pressure, the visitors held on for a second consecutive win, moving up to ninth in the league.
