AS Roma forward Stephan El Sharaawy has escaped without injury after being involved in a car accident overnight.

Upon leaving the club’s training facilities at Trigoria after a 3-1 defeat against Torino, Sharaawy’s Audi 3 had crashed into a Fiat Panda which resulted in that driver coming away with severe whiplash and was taken to hospital according to Corriero Dello Sera.

Both cars sustained severe damage, but the 23-year-old attacker did not require medical attention.

The Italian forward has a history of injuries throughout his short career. However, he was able to return home and should be fit to play their upcoming Europa League match against Astra Giurgiu at the Stadio Olimpico this week.

Roma currently sit fourth in the Serie A standings, trailing Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan. A lack of consistency has plagued the side from the capital, who responded to a 1-0 loss away to Fiorentina with a 4-0 drubbing of Crotone last week. However, this positive performance was followed up by a loss to Torino, who pushed up into mid-table as a result.

Sharaawy has made four appearances in the league this campaign, contributing one goal and one assist, both coming against Crotone.
