The Tigers are sitting an unlikely eighth spot after the first month of 2016-17, thanks in no small part to the defensive resoluteness of Curtis Davies.

Following another excellent performance against Burnley, the gang at oulala.com can exclusively reveal that Hull City’s Davies is statistically the best performing defender in Europe, topping every single player across the top five leagues for interceptions, blocks and clearances.

The 31-year-old is certainly enjoying his return back to the top-flight, having played every minute of the campaign so far which has seen Hull register two wins, one draw and a loss from the first four outings.

Making more that four interceptions per game, Davies leads Marseille’s Tomas Hubocan and Scott Dann with 31 compared to the next highest of 19.

Not afraid to throw his body in the way of an opposition shot, his 11 clearances beat out the likes of Aissa Mandi from Real Betis, Simon Falette of Metz and Stoke City’s Ryan Shawcross.

The most impressive statistic though would be Davies’ 10+ clearances each match so far, with his total of 43 narrowly besting Simon Francis, Jan Vertonghen, Steve Cook and Ben Mee.

Will the Englishman’s resolve be on show again this weekend when Arsenal travel to the KCOM Stadium?
