Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas stands between the posts, having recorded a total of 95 saves for the season. A three-man backline consists of Sassuolo’s Francesco Acerbi, Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, all crucial figures in holding together menacing lines while also able to pounce on a ball inside the box when needed.

A deadly midfield force is dominated by names from the English top-flight, with 2015-16 hero Riyad Mahrez joined by assist king Mesut Ozil and free-kick assassin Dimitri Payet, joined by Man United castaway Angel Di Maria, who is now stealing spotlights with Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking of the French champions, a team of the season could hardly not include the legendary Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored 38 domestic goals as PSG stormed their way to another league title. While the Swedish icon forces Luis Suarez to the bench, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Neymar complete the forward trio.
