Outside90’s Joshua Scarcella breaks down the biggest talking points to come out of the weekend’s Serie A action.

Youth not a problem for Empoli

The Azzuri took to the pitch against Genoa armed with one of the youngest midfield groups you are likely to see in the tactically based Serie A. Headed by Piotr Zielinski (21), the line consisted of Assane Diousse (18), Leandro Paredes (21) and Rade Krunic (22), who despite their inexperience, were able to put their stamp on the game.

It was an even match with both sides sharing the possession and chances created, both goalkeepers making an even number of saves, but it was Empoli who ultimately made their opportunities count.

Late drama mixes the relegation race

Matchday nine featured 19th place versus 20th and gave an early glimpse of which teams may be battling come the last few rounds.

Carpi’s first season in Serie A can be likened to a roller coaster ride and their match against Bologna was no different. The Biancorossi found it hard to keep possession against a more organised visiting outfit, however, managed a scrappy first-half goal. This was to be followed by a red card and Daniele Gastaldello’s equalised just after the restart, the Rossoblu then finished the comback in amazing fashion with a last minute winner in injury time.
