Outside90’s Joshua Scarcella breaks down the biggest talking points to come out of the weekend’s Serie A action.

Goals galore in Bologna

Both teams headed to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on the back of winning form, so it was only a matter of time before the goals arrived and to which they did in quick succession.

A frantic spell beginning in the 24th minute saw Bologna score twice in rapid succession, while Empoli, lead by Manuel Pucciarelli and Massimo Maccarone, added three of their own and inevitably this was the end result.

The win was the Azzuri’s fourth in a row and sees the club go into the Christmas break in seventh position on the table.

Leonardo Bonucci does his best to break a seven game streak

Juventus went into the match in Emilia-Romagna on the back of six straight wins and looking for number seven to finish off the first-half of the season.

Leonardo Bonucci did his best to give Carpi the edge after being bamboozled by former teammate Marco Borriello, who gave the home side the advantage after just fifteen minutes. He then went onto make a poor clearance in added time to give Carpi a chance to level the match, which they almost took just a minute later.

Fortunately a double from Mario Mandzukic and Paul Pogba ensured another win for the Bianconeri, who will have their sights set on a charge toward the summit in the New Year.
