Juventus have taken three points away from the Derby D’Italia, keeping Inter five points adrift from the top three on Sunday evening as they ran out 2-0 winners in a relatively lacklustre match considering the quality of the two sides.

A huge gaffe from Inter wide-man Danilo D’Ambrosio gifted Juventus with their first goal just after the commencement of the second half, as his header fell into the path of Leonardo Bonucci who fired home a volley from six yards. Substitute Alvaro Morata won and converted a penalty on 84 minutes to wrap up a comfortable, albeit cagey, win for the home side.

Here are the three best – and worst – players from the fixture.

Top Three Performers

Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus) – Would have most likely found himself on this list even without his second half goal which put Juve ahead. Providing penetration right from the off in a role which Juve have very much made their own, turning centre-backs into nigh-on holding-midfielders. As well as creating opportunities for his side, he kept things tight at his own end, going a long way in allowing Juve to hold onto the lead. A goal.  A clean sheet. You would be hard-pressed to find a centre-half unhappy with the performance.

Stephan Lichsteiner (Juventus) A sight far from unfamiliar among the Serie A over the last eight years: a marauding Stephan Lichsteiner wreaking havoc down the wide areas of Italian stadia.  A performance which epitomised the wing-back role, fulfilling the defensive duties required for Juve to maintain a clean sheet as well as providing top-notch deliveries into the box in attack. The only thing preventing the Swiss wide-man from grabbing himself an assist was a lack of conviction from the Bianconeri strike-force.

Alex Sandro (Juventus) – It was Juve’s use of wing-backs-cum-wingers that got them over the line in the Derby D’Italia. Sandro, along with the aforementioned Lichsteiner, enjoyed freedom up and down the wide areas of Juventus Stadium and while he got forward well, it was his sturdiness in defence and tackling efficiency that earned him a spot on this list, seamlessly slotting back into the starting XI following a thigh problem. His performance today could only add fuel to the fire that is the serious interest from Manchester United over the past week.
