German side Werder Bremen say that they expect to close a deal for Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry before the transfer window, without any middle-man involvement from Bayern Munich.

It was reported by Sky Sports Germany that Gnabry was set to join the Bavarian giants before being shipped out on loan to Bremen.

Bremen’s Director of Football Frank Baumann has put rest to any rumours that the 21-year-old is set to join their rivals.

“Serge Gnabry would like to play for us. Talks with Arsenal are going well. Bayern have no influence on a potential transfer.” Baumann told reporters at a press conference.

“We’ve agreed terms with the player and we’re confident that the transfer will go ahead.”

“[Per] Mertesacker told us a lot about Serge Gnabry. He is a big fan of the player.”

“We have reached an agreement with Arsenal but nothing has been finalised as of yet. The transfer could be confirmed tomorrow morning.”

Gnabry’s current contract with the Gunners is set to expire at the end of the season, and the move will be a blow to Arsene Wenger who was keen to offer the player a new contract.

“I want to keep Serge Gnabry, and to extend his contract, because I think we stood by him for a long time,” told reporters earlier this month as reported by ESPN.

It appears Bremen have beaten a number of Bundesliga clubs to the player’s signature in order to bring him back to his native Germany.
