Newcastle Jets coach Scott Miller was pleased with his side’s response after last week’s capitulation, despite going down to Adelaide United 1-0.

The Jets were resolute in defence and perpetually threatened the home side on the counter-attack to no avail.

“I think we did okay today on reflection of where we were last week and how challenging it was to pick the team up to a degree, because that’s the role of the head coach,” Miller said.

“More importantly the players’ responsibility today was huge they demonstrated the game plan, they executed a game plan.”

Miller was also optimistic at the likelihood of retaining David Carney as speculation intensifies he will join Sydney FC, following his omission from today’s encounter.

“My selection was that I would leave him [Carney] in Newcastle so it was an opportunity for the new signings to travel with the team.”

“Monday morning we go to training with David… Until Sydney make their decision based upon his future, he’s a contracted player.

“There’s no doubt the speculation is there that he’s in talks with Sydney FC and I’ve always respected David Carney’s output whilst I’ve been here.”

Newcastle face a daunting home match against a free-scoring Melbourne City at Hunter Stadium next Sunday.
