Socceroo Tom Rogic says he was never short of optimism in getting his career together despite suggestions it was stagnating.

The 23-year-old has endured a frustrating run of injuries in his career, at the beginning of the 2014-15 season he suffered a groin injury which kept him out of the 2015 Asian Cup.

“It was never in doubt, I had my difficult spells, but things are going well and I’m not getting carried away, it’s been a big season for me at my club,” Rogic said.

“To be involved in the national team has been positive as well. I feel I have more to give and more to offer.

“(My injuries) are well and truly behind me, I still work every day to stay on top of fitness. Those factors are in the past, I feel good at the moment, I feel I have a lot to give and a lot more to improve on.”

Rogic has starred in the past two games for the Socceroos. He came on as a substitute in the final 30 minutes in their 7-0 win against Tajikistan in Adelaide scoring two goals off the bench.

Last night in the 5-1 drubbing of Jordan the Celtic man started and central to the win, after just 15 minutes he forced a save from Jordanian goalkeeper Amer Shafi. Eight minutes into the second half, Rogic was switched on to pounce on Tim Cahill’s blocked shot to score the fourth Socceroo goal of the night.

“It’s been good to score, in my position and also the team, it’s important to contribute in that factor, so hopefully it’ll continue,” he said.

“Maybe a little bit unlucky not to score another one, but I think it’s part of my game I’m working on and hopefully I can contribute more in the future.

“It was 90 minutes which I needed, it was good to play, as I said any chance to represent your country is a privilege, so I felt really good out there.”
