Brisbane Roar have signed Denmark international Thomas Kristensen on a one-year deal.

The 33-year-old, who will don the number 7 for his new side has been recently utilised in a holding midfield role for Dutch Eredivisie club ADO Den Haag and will bring even more experience to a Brisbane outfit boasting plenty of it.

Kristensen, who gritted his teeth at Danish sides Lyngby BK and FC Nordsjælland, made a name for himself at FC Copenhagen, helping the side to 4 league titles during his six-year stint at the famed club between 2008 and 2014.

The Dane’s leadership qualities, and winning mentality will benefit the Queensland side who just fell short of the mark last season.

“Thomas is a winner and has been successful throughout his career,” Roar coach John Aloisi said.

“We are again looking to improve as a team and we believe Thomas has a big part to play in the upcoming season.”

The 6-foot-2 veteran midfielder jumped at the chance to join the Brisbane Roar, following a season in the Hague where he was unable to consolidate a regular starting berth under recently departed manager Henk Fraser.

“The offer to come to Brisbane is a once in a life opportunity for myself and my family,” Kristensen said.

Whilst the attraction of living in the sunshine state may have played a part in his decision to move to the A-League, he has moved quickly to affirm his intentions.

“First and foremost I come here to help the club be successful and win a trophy.”

Kristensen joins Melbourne City’s Thomas Sorensen, and Newcastle’s Morten Nordstrand to be the third Dane currently playing in the A-League.
