Adelaide United has announced the signing of Jesse Makarounas on a one-year contract, after he was released by Melbourne Victory in May.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder will bolster Guillermo Amor’s stocks, expected to be another option off the bench.

Makarounas, who was previously at Perth Glory, revealed his delight in putting pen-to-paper with the reigning A-League Champions and taking on a new challenge.

“It feels great to be an Adelaide United player and I’m excited to get going,” Makarounas said.

“Obviously the team was very successful last year and I felt it was time for me to make a change in my career and I’m happy the move has brought me here.

“There are some great players here at the club and the style of football that the team plays is really good and it will suit me very well.”

The once Australia U-20 international also praised Adelaide’s footballing philosophy.

“Watching the team play last season, you could see how attractive the football was, so hopefully I can contribute to the team positively and bring something extra to the squad,” he said.

“We want to have another successful year and I’m ready to do whatever is best for the team and play wherever I’m needed.”

He becomes the Reds’ fourth addition to the squad following the signings of SA locals Marc Marino, Ryan Kitto and Ben Garuccio.

Makarounas, who incidentally won the A-League championship in 2015 with the Victory, has accumulated 57 appearances across all competitions with his previous two employers.
