Brazil and Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro is set to miss at least the next month after scans revealed he had a fracture in his lower left leg.

Casemiro suffered the injury in last weekend’s match against Espanyol, after he was kicked in the leg as he attempted to block a shot.

Real Madrid revealed the extent of his injury on their official website in a statement.

“Following tests carried out today on Casemiro at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a fracture to the central third of his left fibula. His recovery will continue to be assessed,” the statement read.

The injury will see Casemiro miss Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela.

Casemiro has become a key member of the Real Madrid line-up in the past 12 months, having now featured for the European Champions 66 times.

In a further blow to Madrid, Casemiro’s Brazilian compatriot Marcelo looks set for a spell on the sidelines having been forced off in his their 1-1 draw with Villarreal.
