Paris Saint-Germain were unable to hold on for a record-equalling 14th straight Ligue 1 victory against Bordeaux, having to settle for a share of the spoils overnight.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw but Les Parisiens will feel like they should have won the game after the visitors were reduced to 10 men late in the second-half.

Two goals from Edinson Cavani in the opening 45 minutes should have been enough, but a spirited fight back, helped by some goalkeeping errors saw Bordeaux muster a draw in the French capital.

Goalkeeper to blame for PSG stumble

Kevin Trapp had an evening to forget, the German goalkeeper was at fault for both goals conceded by PSG and the return of Salvatore Sirigu will surely arrive if performances such as this continue.

A ducking Cavani did not help Bordeaux’s first goal, but Henri Saivet must have expected his header to be saved by Trapp, who ended up helping the ball into the net.

The second goal was more clear-cut, hesitating on a back pass from Marquinhos and Wahbi Kharzi was able to steal the ball off his toes for a tap in.

Trapp did have some good moments thoughm including an excellent save to deny an Enzo Crivelli header, but they will not be remembered compared to his mistakes.

Edinson Cavani good, but not quite great for PSG

The Uruguayan is much maligned in the French capital for not being quote ‘productive’ enough so far this season , however, he has remained prolific in the danger area. A brace in this match saw Cavani’s season tally rise to four.

Long rumoured as a transfer target for Arsenal and Manchester United, the striker impressed and his first goal was taken brilliantly after an error from Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carraso. His second came from a magic free-kick struck into the top right corner, David Luiz and Zlatan Ibrahamimovic will be lucky to get regular dead ball duties back if Cavani can produce like this regularly.

For one of the first times in his PSG career Cavani found the ability to lead to line in the absence of Ibrahimovic , however,  it only lasted the first 45 minutes and he was largely absent during the second-half. It is this inconsistency that forces fans to question the striker and they will be hoping for more of his efforts from the early stages of this game as the season continues.

Angel Di Maria’s home starting debut

The Argentine started his first game for his new club and looked lively over the pitch. Determined to make an impact. Angel Di Maria dazzled at his best and looked close to finding the net in patches, but as was sometimes the case at Manchester United last season, he can come across as selfish at times.

As the season wears on though, it looks like the Di Maria that was seen at Real Madrid could return, the winger’s change of pace and darting runs inside provide a new weapon for PSG, which they will learn to use more efficiently towards the latter-half of the season.

PSG not invincible

Before this game it seemed like PSG were on a different level than the chasing pack in Ligue 1, but Bordeaux put up a spirited fight and if other teams can do the same Ibrahimovic, Cavani, Di Maria and company will be looking over their shoulder far more often.

Bordeaux were good, but will not be the best team PSG face this season and the errors, particularly in goal will need to be ironed out if the champions are to keep their title. Lille, Olympique Lyon and Marseille will look to this result and point to weakness in an otherwise stellar PSG team.

It is worth remembering though that this PSG team were without Luiz and Ibrahimovic so with those additions still to come, it’s not quite panic stations in Paris.
