Leicester City may have done the impossible this season, but it was on this day 21-years ago that the original Premier League fairytale was played out.

Blackburn Rovers captured the 1994-95 top-flight title after an agonisingly close race with the Red Devils.

Spearheaded by legendary hitman Alan Shearer’s amazing campaign record of 34 goals from 42 appearances and lead by mastermind Kenny Dalglish on the sidelines, the Riversiders won 27 of their 42 league outings and finished with a +41 goal difference.

Yet while it is the striker’s name which has been synonymous with the Blackburn glory, equal credit could also being given to the unlikely source of then-West Ham goalkeeper Ludo Miklosko, who almost single-handedly crushed the title hopes of Manchester United on the season’s final day.

Needing just a goal to snatch the crown after Liverpool wet ahead against the Rovers at Anfield, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men threw it all into attack but were miraculously denied over and over again by the Czech custodian, who made three one-on-one saves against Andy Cole in the last five minutes alone.

A 2-1 defeat to the Reds could not stop Dalglish’s squad from edging Man United to the title by just a single point, ending an 81-year run without winning an English trophy.
