Nick Ansell takes a swipe at Melbourne City trophy absence

Melbourne Victory defender Nick Ansell has discounted comments made by Melbourne City counterpart Ivan Franjic, who said his club is “miles ahead” of every other A-League club.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Football Show, Ansell says that if City were that far ahead of the rest of the competition, they would be able to boast trophies.

“Yeah, he (Franjic) is probably wrong in that aspect,” Ansell said.

“If they were the most professional, they’d win trophies and they haven’t yet.”

The local rivals meet for the third and possibly final time this season at AAMI Park on Saturday night, and the defender says his team mates are only focussed on themselves, rather than their opponents, who have tasted defeat two weeks in a row.

“It doesn’t really matter when you play them … all the players are going to be up for this game.

“We’re not really thinking too much about that (City’s form).”
