The Jets’ new Danish striker Morten Nordstrand is quickly warming to his new surroundings and is eager to make a mark on the A-League.

Appearing exclusively on today’s edition of the Daily Football Show, Nordstrand spoke about briefly debuting against Adelaide, his strange new nickname and his fitness ahead of Newcaste’s match against Melbourne City.

While the 32-year-old says that his body was not quite ready when he was introduced late last weekend at Cooper’s Stadium, Jets fans will not have to wait long to see the striker at his best.

“I will be 100% fit in one week or so, that is my guess,” said Nordstrand.

“I think when I get fit, hopefully I can make a difference for the team.”

The Dane brings over a decade of experience across Denmark’s top competitions with the likes of FC Nordsjælland and FC Copenhagen, yet it is a fondness for scoring bicycle kicks that may be the endearing factor for A-League audiences.

“If the timing is right I will of course give it a try, but it is not something I can promise now.”

It has not taken long for the new arrival to fit in at the Hunter Stadium, with a teammate already giving him a moniker, taken from an iconic local beach, that will surely stick in the minds of Newcastle supporters.

“I think I was here for two days when Hoffy [Jason Hoffman] gave me the nickname ‘Nobby’.

“When you translate my name in Danish, it is like North beach,” explained the striker.

Nordstrand will look to improve on his showing in the closing stages against Adelaide when the Jets host Melbourne City, although he is already wary of the quality possessed by the Victorian title contenders, including fellow Dane Thomas Sorensen.

“They are playing good and they have some quality players, especially up front…it will be a tough game for us.”
