France put in a promising shift, despite being held to a 0-0 draw with Switzerland at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

The host nation had yet to deliver a compete performance, until this game and would take confidence heading into the round of 16 after topping Group A on seven points.

After recent criticism, Paul Pogba played an instrumental role in the clash, striking the crossbar twice and forcing gloveman Yann Sommer into an excellent save.

Les Bleus further hit the woodwork through substitute Dimitri Payet and on the balance of play deserved to win.

The result also see the Swiss qualify for the next round for the first-ever time, finishing second with five points, but a lack of goals is a concern moving forward.

It was a historic night in Lyon for Albania as they secured their first win at a major tournament after defeating Romania 1-0.

Albania withstood some early pressure before they took an unlikely lead before half time through a headed goal from Armando Sadiku.

In the second half it was Romania who had the bulk of possession and created all the chances, only for their execution in the final third let them down as Albania celebrated wildly.

The loss sees Romania bow out of the tournament with just one point, while Albania are likely to secure a spot in the knockout stages as one of the four best third placed teams.
