Before welcoming Liverpool in the Europa League tomorrow morning the gang at oulala.com have taken a look at Marouane Fellaini’s 2015/16 and the stats that show why Louis van Gaal must ignore the Belgian.

Over 15 appearances in the Premier League this season, the 28-year-old has been a poor excuse in the holding-midfield role.

Physical in all the wrong ways on the field, he has lost 22 and won 13 attempted tackles, averaging out to a woeful 37% success rate while committing 25 fouls. Considering Fellaini’s size, even in the air he has not been up to scratch, losing out in more than 50% of aerial duels.

These problems were magnified in the first leg match against Liverpool, where Fellaini won just one out of eight attempted tackles at a 13% success rate and recorded six fouls, although he was strong in the air on the occasion.

With van Gaal’s position and United’s season on a knife edge, more sensible options may need to be utilised if their Europa League hopes are to stay alive.
